Guidelines
and Requirements.
- First, read the novel as it now stands. Get a feel for the
atmosphere of Promisetown by reading all introduction materials,
including:
- Bits (chapters) at Promisetown Tales
should be between 200 and 1,500 words. Readers of this novel
are busy, busy people -- and we think short is better. The
idea here has always been to give the reader as much story as
possible in as short and concise a bit as possible.
- Note that each bit (chapter) should relate to and build off the
overall story and previous bits.
- As the author of a bit (chapter), you force the direction of the
next bit's action by offering the next Bit's first line at the
bottom of the bit you write. (For example, Bit 15 provides Bit
16's opening sentence as "Before he won the
Pulitzer, Patrick" So Bit 16 will begin ... "Before he won the
Pulitzer, Patrick"
- Pieces written "by" the characters will not be
considered. Those pieces will be written by Michael Walker at
his own discretion and when he feels they add to the overall novel.
- Your submitted piece is subject to editing by the primary author
of Promisetown Tales, Michael Walker; however you will be
provided with the opportunity to accept the edits and have the Bit
published -- or turn down the edits, in which case the draft Bit
will not be published.
- The novel Promisetown Tales remains the copyrighted
material of Michael Walker. However, each bit (chapter) that
is submitted will carry a byline -- your name.
- Authors who have pieces accepted will also get a free profile
page at
DREAMWalker
Group with links to their own sites (as well as contact
information, etc.).
- It is requested that you provide a
cross-link from your homepage back to the novel,
Promisetown
Tales. This will help drive readers to the site!
- New bits (chapters) to the site, as well as the
co-author's name. will be announced on the repeating left page of
DREAMWalker
Group. The site DREAMWalker
Group currently profiles approximately 2,300 authors and artists.
- There is no compensation for inclusion in the
electronic version of Promisetown Tales, except for free
advertising and publicity that may result in such inclusion.
- In the event that Promisetown Tales is ever published in
book form, each author will be paid $100 for each bit that is in the
final published book.
- For information, or how to submit a Bit, write me at

Questions You May Be Asking
Q. I write
about an entirely different subject matter. Cookbooks are my
forte. Can I contribute?
A. Sure,
but I'm going to ask you to spread your creative wings. If you
have an idea, take a change and write it out. This is a novel,
so you're going to have to do it as fiction.
Q. Do I have to
write for the next Bit?
A. Pretty
much so. . Like most novels, Promisetown Tales
has several stories and themes going on at one time. But part
of the fun of this novel is the fact that you're action must flow
via the direction offered in the previous Bit.
Q. How much
time do I have to submit a piece?
A. A new
Bit will come out on the 1st and the 15th of each month. This
means you'll have about one week to submit your ideas and/or Bit;
and I'll have one week to edit it (if necessary) and place it in the
novel online.
Q. Where do I
send my submission?
A.
Send
submissions or requests for information to
